Get ready for a great luxury stay at the Wolf Cove Inn! Now offering free organic and natural dog treats upon check-in, we’re sure your fur baby will start their vacation as spoiled as you are. Delicious and nutritious, these tail-wagging treats are sure to have the whole family saying “Welcome!” That’s a great way to put it!
We offer comfortable sleeping accommodations for your dog in the Rangeley Lake Room, Moosehead Lake Room, Winter Harbor Suite, Deer Isle Suite and Eagle’s Nest Cabin. Out of respect for our guests, who are particularly sensitive to dog fur and hair, dog access is limited to three rooms and cabins on the second floor. In addition, dogs are not allowed on the third floor of the hotel. In accordance with Maine restaurant regulations, dogs are not allowed in the dining room. The über-friendly Inn by the Sea makes traveling with your dog easy. Located on the edge of Cape Elizabeth’s Crescent Beach State Park, this luxury hotel gets top marks in the country for luxury, experience, green and, yes, dog-friendly. Never satisfied with its many accomplishments, the hotel is constantly renovating the property. And, it is always looking for more ways to support not only the environment, but also the community.
I have been coming to this hotel regularly since it opened decades ago on the site of the old Crescent Beach Inn. This time I came for two nights with some friends who have dogs in the Covid-19 bubble. Our vacation coincided with the Pool Pawty hotel’s annual end of season.

Pet Friendly Cabins Near Me & Dog Friendly Activities
What is this, you ask? Every year when the hotel closes the pool to humans for the season, it opens to dogs the last week. Bo, our 1 3/4 year old chocolate lab, is great to discover. He and his friends Lincoln (his brother, black lab) and Welly (forester, silky wheat/poodle) played hard.
Among them were Charlie (a special shelter) and other dogs who came to play and swim. I think at one point there were eight dogs chasing around the pool, and some of them actually went for a swim.
Despite being Labrador retrievers, neither Bo nor Lincoln actually swim. Bo Chuggle took the first step towards the pool.

York Harbor Inn
Well, just because the pool is closed doesn’t mean you can’t surprise the dogs at the Beach Inn. Many benefits continue throughout the year. At first, the dogs are pampered and loved by the staff. When you return for a business visit, don’t be surprised if the staff greets your dog first and then you.

Dog Friendly Rooms L.L. Bean is supplied with a dog mat, dog bowl, dog towel and cleaning bags. And it comes with a special menu for dogs. Bo offers the meat eater and Link gives the winged dog two legs. When I asked Welly for his opinion, he shrugged; another satisfied customer.
Dogs can eat in the bar with heat lamps on the outside deck and, for this winter, due to social distancing from Covid-19, another purpose-built room. All catering due to Covid is also reserved. Of course there is room service. Due to covid, the bin will be outside your door.
New England Dog Friendly Vacations
A boardwalk and walkway connect the hotel to Crescent Beach, which is open to off-leash dogs in the winter. At nearby Higgins Beach, dogs can be off-leash during the holiday season.
Although none of the dogs were surfers, they all enjoyed splashing in the surf. Labs have again shown that despite playing with the stick, any hope of recovery is futile.
When it’s time to walk, include the beach, a service road that parallels the beach, forest trails along the southern border of the park, and the Great Lake Trail. Don’t forget to bring the bags provided in the room to clean up after your dog.
Inn by the Sea is suitable for those looking for a luxurious stay experience: think beach style with a fun and casual atmosphere. Our two-bedroom dog-friendly Cove Suite has front and back entrances. The front door opens onto a private screened patio area which adjoins the lawn. It would be easy to spend hours relaxing here and enjoying the dreamy ocean views.
Dog Friendly Glamping Resorts For 2021 Vacations
The living area consisted of an open kitchen (with everything but the oven), a dining room and a sitting area facing the gas fireplace. We put the latter to good use on a cool autumn evening.
One bedroom has a king size bed with a trundle, the other has two queens; both had large flat screen televisions. Bo is sleeping in the middle of the road. I wasn’t sure how he would react to it not being included, so I brought extra sheets from home to protect the hotel mattress, which was a smart decision. We both slept well.
The bathroom has a marble bath with double sinks, a large bathtub and a large shower. I love the eco-friendly Bee Kind toiletries and love the cozy dress and slippers.
Other accommodations include traditional rooms, luxury suites, and garden suites in the main hotel, as well as one- and two-bedroom beach suites; some of the latter have indoor-outdoor fireplaces.
Take A Dog Friendly Vacation

At the hotel’s Sea Glass restaurant, chef Andrew Chadwick’s menus offer something for every taste, as well as options for those with dietary restrictions.
We ate out for breakfast every day and dinner one night. If the weather wasn’t good, we ate with the dogs in a bar or in a dog-friendly, socially distanced convention center. However, for limited tables, advance booking is recommended.
Breakfast might be my favorite meal, and I’m not sure which I like more: warm maple syrup or decadent almond-filled French toast with roasted mushrooms, sausage, mozzarella cheese, and pesto.

For dinner I chose the fish of the day, a delicious halibut. My tablemates loved the chicken saltimbocca, the burger and the confit lamb shoulder. We chased it with a total apple crisp – with raspberries, strawberries and ice cream, it was a unique twist on the classic and we loved it.
The hotel’s gym is open, but due to Covid it is limited to a maximum of four people at a time, so advance booking is required. Similarly, the spa is open from Wednesday to Sunday, but the steam room and shower rooms are closed.
