It is cool in the evening, and in the morning the rooms are filled with natural light. The hosts, Shilagh and Alex, are self-confessed “super travelers”, meaning they have thought of everything to make your stay memorable; Including a great take on local cuisine.
Juno loved having a large garden to witness the escape as we enjoyed the hot tub as the sun set over Donegal. The cottage has stunning views of the Skerries and is a 5 minute walk from Whiterocks Beach, Dunluce Castle and the charming Bushmills market (famous for its whiskey).
Formerly the home of American artist Frank Russell, the artists’ studio and adjacent cottage (perfect for large parties) have recently been lovingly restored by their new owner, Julie. Laharandota, named after the nearby wind, is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the vibrant beauty of West Cork. Nestled on the unspoilt coastline on the south-west side of the Sheep’s Head Peninsula, the uninterrupted sea views from Dunman’s Bay Studios are breathtaking. The studio is surrounded by a peaceful garden with a pool and a babbling spring! It is a comfortable and relaxing place and has everything you need for a few days exploring the Irish Mediterranean. Both locations are dog-friendly, and the garden is a great place for dogs. Note that many walks in this part of Ireland, including the nearby Sheep’s Head Path and Beara Path, do not allow dogs. By the way, we kept Juno in front, the locals said that dogs do not interfere with domestic sheep, there is no problem.

The car has everything you need for the trip, including a stroller, so all you need to do is pack your bottle and blanket. You will collect this car from Cathal’s beautiful cottage in Waterfoot, Co. Antrim, where we were gifted with chard and spinach from the garden. Cathal and his partner Jules are so friendly and welcoming that you will be tempted to invite them on your trip!
There is something romantic and romantic about sailing across the Atlantic Ocean. Standing at Roonagh Dock and waiting for the ferry to Clare Island is the experience of sheep arriving to join the ferry after a trip across the island.
