Pet Friendly Lodging Zion

Pet Friendly Lodging Zion – Zion National Park is actively monitoring the presence of harmful blue-green algae and cyanotoxins in Virgin River Park. Cyanotoxins can be present at any time.

Keep dogs on a leash while in Zion NP and out of the water. Dogs are susceptible to cyanotoxin exposure because it is difficult to control their interaction with potentially toxic algal mats. Visit our website for the latest information on toxic blue-green algae blooms.

The only trail that allows pets is the Pa’rus Trail, which starts at the Zion Canyon Visitor Center.

Pets are not allowed on other trails, wilderness areas, buses or public buildings in Zion.

In addition, pets on proper leashes are welcome on public roads and parking lots, in designated campgrounds and picnic areas, and on Zion Lodge grounds.

Pets must not be left unattended. Zion is hot! During most months of the year, the temperature inside a vehicle can quickly heat up to dangerous levels. It is forbidden to leave a pet unattended in a vehicle with environmental conditions that endanger the animal’s health. Pets on a leash may be left unattended in developed campsites only if the environmental conditions are safe for the animal and the animal does not make unreasonable noise (barking, etc.).

Pet Friendly Lodging Zion

Zion was Utah’s first national park. And as you walk along the Virgin River, looking at the massive sandstone cliffs rising into the brilliant blue sky, it’s easy to see why! But how much of Zion National Park can you see with pets? We did some research to answer this question.

Dog Friendly Zion National Park: Visiting With A Dog

Located in southern Utah near Brice Canyon National Park and Dickie National Forest, Zion is simply breathtaking. Ranging from 3,600 feet to 8,700 feet, the park protects an incredible variety of wildlife, plants and breathtaking scenery.

The best time to visit Zion National Park with pets is anytime but summer! Five million tourists visited the park in 2021, making it the 2nd most visited national park in America. Despite the crowds, summer temperatures in Zion can be downright dangerous. During our visit in late August, the highs at the bottom of the canyon reached 104 degrees!

For a quieter visit, consider visiting Zion in the winter. With more than 550,000 visitors descending on the park during the July peak, each December and January historically sees about a fifth fewer people. And even though it’s the middle of winter, daytime temperatures often reach 54 degrees — the perfect time to meet a puppy!

To our RVing friends: Plan to make it to Zion’s South Gates. To get to the east side of the park, you have to go through a historic tunnel. Almost all RVs, buses, trailers, semi-trailers, two-wheel trucks, RVs, and boats require traffic control, which means rangers must stop oncoming traffic for you.

Where To Stay Near Zion With Kids: 17 Kid Friendly Lodging Options

In Zion National Park, leashed pets can join you on all paved surfaces. This applies to public roads and parking lots, designated campgrounds, all 22 interchanges on Hwy 9 (Zion – Mount Carmel Hwy) and the Pa’rus Trail. Additionally, pets are welcome in the picnic areas and Zion Lodge.

Pets cannot go on other trails, which means that hiking together in Zion is limited. But read on – we’ve got a hiking solution you’ll love!

Finally, pets are not allowed in the wilderness, on buses, or in any park building, including Zion Lodge.

Zion National Park has two entrances, the East Gate and the South Gate. If you reach the East Gate, you will almost immediately be overwhelmed by the monumental scenery. If so, go to the visitor center. But stop every way back to see the massive sandstone rocks in cream, pink and red.

The 5 Best Pet Friendly Hotels In Springdale 2024 (with Prices)

When visiting Zion National Park with pets, be sure to visit the visitor center. Pets are not allowed inside, so take turns watching the 22-minute orientation film and exhibits. Grab your pet’s BARK Ranger tag and it’s time to go!

From the visitor center, head across the road and the bridge that spans the river to pick up the pet-friendly Pa’rus Trail. Following the Virgin River through the canyon, the trail leads 1.8 miles to Canyon Junction.

Plan to spend a few hours on the trail. Or have a picnic and spend more time. And for a longer hike, read the Zion Canyon section.

If you’re visiting Zion with your pets during the summer, plan to walk the Pa’rus Trail early in the morning or at sunset.

It’s getting HOT! And there isn’t much shade. And cooling off in the river is not an option. Zion monitors the presence of harmful blue-green algae and cyanotoxins in Virgin River Park. These toxins can be present at any time, so keep your dogs on a leash and out of the water.

It’s also a good idea to pack dog boots! There are several bridges on the Pa’rus course, and on sunny days the composite flooring material gets very hot. Before your pet walks on the bridges, touch the surface to make sure they don’t burn their paws.

If you’ve made it to Zion’s South Gate, after visiting the visitor center and walking the Pa’rus Trail, drive to the East Gate and enjoy the crowds along the way.

Pet Friendly Lodging Zion

The main attraction of Zion National Park is Zion Canyon. It is home to the world famous hanging gardens, waterfalls and Zion Lodge. For most of the year, Zion Canyon can only be reached by bus. And pets are not allowed on the routes.

Awesome Place, For Us And Our Dog

Of course, you could see Zion Canyon on the shuttle in between. Or you can find a local pet daycare or boarding house for your traveling furry friend. But if you want to see Zion Canyon with your pets, you have two options.

The first is to walk or ride a bike. Pets are welcome on all paved roads in Zion. And for most of the year, the only traffic on Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is shuttles. Take the Pa’rus Trail 1.8 miles from the visitor center to Canyon Junction where the road closure begins. From here it is 23.9 miles to Temple Shinawav at the end of the road.

Another option is to visit Zion when the buses are not running. (That’s why we originally recommended planning your trip in December or January!)

Zion Transport closes from the end of November until just before Christmas. And during that time, Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is open to private vehicles. This is your window to ride the famous canyon with your best friend. Just remember that pets must stay on roads or paved surfaces.

Zion Mountain Ranch

The town of Springdale is located at the southern gate of Zion. With pet-friendly hotels, campgrounds, restaurants and dog parks, it’s a welcoming place for travelers with pets.

Stop by the Visitor Center for some recommendations, then grab lunch or dinner! We found the patio at Cafe Oskar the perfect place to eat.

To see a less popular part of Zion National Park with your pets, head west on Highway 9 to Kolob Terrace Road, then north. The 25-mile ride climbs from 3,550 feet to 2,118 feet and weaves in and out of the national park. But the views make the trip such a pleasure!

You will drive several roads along the way. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed on all these trails. But there is a picnic area and a view of Lava Point that is worth checking out!

Vacation Variations At Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort

At the end of the road is the Kolob reservoir. In addition to being a spectacular body of water, the temperature here was almost 20 degrees cooler than Springdale on the day we visited!

A private campground surrounds the reservoir, but most sites were open on the day we visited. There is also a boat launch
