There are many factors that determine the length of a family vacation. Some studies suggest taking eight days of vacation to maximize your free time.
But for some families, you may be limited to the number of days you take off from work or school. Hotels and food can also add up quickly, so the longer the vacation the more money you’ll spend on the trip.
For our family, we usually want our family vacation to be seven to eight days long depending on the travel season. If we fly most of the first day, we may need more days to get to know the destination.

However, I’ll be honest, by the seventh day most of us are homesick and tired. You don’t want to be so busy on vacation that you think you need a vacation after your vacation!
When you can! 🙂 Our family tries to take at least two family vacations a year, and some trips for a few weeks. But I suggest you try to plan at least one family vacation every year.
I know that responsibilities and finances can affect how often you can take family leave. But, if you have time for a weekend vacation, you will remember with your children and experience something new!

One of our family’s favorite trips was a trip down the California coast. We all loved Northern California. The giant redwoods at Redwood National and State Park are spectacular. And there are many family trips that take you deeper into these great people.

Fort Bragg’s Glass Beach is a great place for amazing family photos! Nearby McKercher State Park invites kids to get outside, explore, and enjoy nature. And you might even see whales at the right time!
Northern California is home to Lassen Volcano National Park, where kids can see crazy thermal activity and beautiful waterfall growth.

If you’re looking for a lake vacation, check out Shasta Lake or Whiskeytown Lake. Families will enjoy paddling and sunbathing on either of these two large lakes.
Estes Park, Colorado is a great vacation spot for families looking for a national park adventure with small town charm and day trips to big cities. . Full of fun walks, beautiful views and lots of wildlife.
Estes Park is a charming town on Main Street with many tourist shops, including gourmet shops and ice cream parlors. They also have fun scavenger hunts to keep the kids entertained while you wander the high street.
And when you’re ready for some big cities, head to Denver. About an hour and a half by car, this is the best way to spend a holiday with nature and city views. If you’re an NFL fan, they can also book a Broncos Stadium tour.
Is Tulum The Best Place For A Family Vacation In Mexico?
One of the best family vacation spots in America is Oahu. Honolulu is home to the island of Hawaii, but there’s plenty more for families to explore. If you want to have the best Hawaiian experience, Oahu is the place to find it.
Makupu’u Lookout is a great place to stop on Oahu for a great view and a great hike / @ Putea Puka.
Getting to the island is easy as most major airlines fly into Honolulu, so Easterners may want to consider a short stop in California if they want to avoid the long flight.
Some of our favorite things to do on Oahu are hiking Diamond Head, walking around the island, eating a plate of shrimp, and of course, enjoying some ice cream.

You will also find many beaches and rocky viewpoints for the day. Popular spots include snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, watching the waves at North Shore, and taking long walks to Kaualoa Park and Secret Island.
Many families choose to stay at Honolulu’s Waikiki Beach, but others prefer Disney’s Aulani, which is 45 minutes from Honolulu. And you might want to catch a luau or the Polynesian Cultural Center at the Disney Aulani Luau.
We don’t think much of it since we live in Seattle, but I think it’s a great city for a family vacation. The family will enjoy exploring the downtown Seattle area, where they will visit some of the city’s top attractions.
The MoPop Museum should be on your list. They have tons of pop culture memorabilia and music experiences at your fingertips. Today, they have a Minecraft show! It’s a pop culture museum!

Seattle has an amazing children’s museum, the Space Needle, a world-class zoo and aquarium, and the ocean. Kids will love seeing the wind on a boat, looking for crabs and shells on the beaches, and going whale watching. And it’s easy to get to Olympic National Park from Seattle, where you’ll find the spectacular scenery of the Pacific Northwest.
Parents will love all of our great restaurants, beer bars and parks that offer amazing views and plenty of space for the kids to run around. And if you’re a sports fan, Seattle has football, baseball, soccer, and soon a hockey team with great fans!
