There are no dog restrictions here, so expect to see your pups socializing with their canine companions and enjoying the ocean. The beach is a mixture of pebbles and sand, so waterproof shoes are recommended especially during high tide, when most of the sandy beach is covered with water.

There is a parking lot on the beach on a full day or hourly basis. Holes and a cafe/ice house are available in the car park with a good selection of food and drink at reasonable prices.

The beach around Goring and Ferring is so long that it never feels busy, making it one of the best dog friendly beaches in Sussex. It is a beautiful, old English beach area with good water quality and a lovely walk. The beach is popular for water sports such as kitesurfing, jet skiing, sailing and paddleboarding, so there is always something to see at sea.

The beach consists mainly of pebbles and stones separated by wooden piers, at the back of which lies a flat sand under the open tide. There are also two hens marking the limits of the dog-allowed zone between May 1 and September 30, although they can roam freely along the entire beach the rest of the year. This part is located in front of Lanam Maris Cafe, which is worth a stop on the way for lunch or a hot drink to welcome your dog with open paws. There is easy free parking, toilets and more facilities at Goring-in-Sea after Goring Beach including parks and gardens.

Across the River Arun from East Beach is Littlehampton’s West Beach, which may be close geographically but miles away in terms of vibe and atmosphere. You’ll find no development and no boarded up beach here, just a grand expanse of pebbles and sandy beaches loved by dogs of all shapes and sizes.

What’s not to love about this part of Littlehampton? There are sandy beaches to walk on, clean toilets behind the West Beach Cafe and plenty of places to eat or relax in the sun while your dog relaxes by your side. Littlehampton is a classic holiday destination and is therefore well filled with sun seekers and their children, so be careful with driving as the car park fills up quickly on clear days.

Lancing is a great beach for those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of Worthing or Brighton. By no means a tourist beach, Lancing is stony rather than sandy, but it is the best dog-friendly beach in Sussex. Because the beach is quiet and calm, with plenty of space and clean water, your pups will be happy to get their paws wet. Kite and other windsurfers have their own designated section, but this does not bother you. And you can give your four-legged friend what it’s like to watch him move.
