Paso Robles is one of California’s most popular wine growing regions and is located in San Luis Obispo County, about 206 miles south of San Francisco on California’s central coast. If you love wine, consider this part of the central coast for your next weekend getaway to San Francisco.
The 10 Best Paso Robles Wineries To Visit (just Updated)
Located between San Francisco and Los Angeles, the city is known for its many wineries, tasting rooms, and olive groves that attract wine lovers from both Northern and Southern California. Similar to my previous wine tastings with Babu (and now, Gunda) in Napa, Sonoma, Carmel Valley, Clear Lake, and Lodi, Paso Robles also has many dog-friendly tasting rooms and wineries.
The best way to plan your dog wine tasting in Paso is to look at the directory on the Paso Robles Winery website that lists all the wineries (with a dog-friendly symbol next to the name to indicate they accept pets). It certainly helped to put together a short list of trails to take with Gunda, who previously joined us in Pismo Beach, a dog-friendly beach town near San Luis Obispo.
Finally, without further ado, here are some of my favorite Paso Robles wineries based on my experiences. This list will continue to grow, so keep checking back for new additions. Prices reflect 2021 tastes and may change over time. The same applies to food and pet policies which are constantly changing, so please confirm everything before you arrive, e.g. consult a winemaker before making your own.
This hot dog tasting room in downtown Paso Robles will blow you away with its friendly service and variety of Spanish dishes! Best of all, dogs are also allowed inside the tasting room, which is open late (until 8 p.m.). You can taste 6 wines (a mix of white and red) for $20 or go to the Reserve tasting for $35. Grapes are sourced from vineyards in San Luis Obispo, Templeton and Paso.
A New Energy Is Bringing World Class Wines To Paso Robles
Near Diablo Paso, another late-night wine tasting spot is Jeffry’s Wine Country BBQ on Norma’s Way Alley, which has a large patio and is dog-friendly. Cendré Wines is another great place for an evening wine tasting with outdoor seating available.
Tooth and Nail Winery is a popular dog-friendly Paso Robles winery with wine, food and romantic music that continues until 6pm around the chateau. You can sample the white and red combo for $30 or all Leva reds for $40. Our tasting took place on the shaded terrace and we chose a mezze plate to accompany our wine. If you want a more relaxed and focused experience, I highly recommend going to the pre-tasting.
Eberle is a German word meaning “Little Bull” which explains the pig image that welcomes you to the winery and the pig images all around and also on the wine labels. This winery is unique in that tastings are free. You only pay a small fee to visit the wine cave when you make an appointment.
The cave tour (where dogs are allowed) takes about 15 minutes where employees will take you through the winemaking process, through the fermentation room and finally into the cave surrounded by oak trees. This trip is educational and fun and I highly recommend joining!

The actual tasting takes place at a table provided inside the beautiful terrace overlooking their vineyard. You can taste one white (Chardonnay) and four reds, of which “Full Boar Red” is definitely my favorite Cabernet!
The winery’s tagline is “French DNA with Paso character” for its wines, that is. all types of Rhone! You can attend the regular tasting for $15 or the more expensive reserve tasting for $25 and the tasting fee is waived by purchasing 2+ bottles or signing up for the wine club.
Enjoy the outdoors with your kids in the shade on the terrace. CASS has a great food menu (which we didn’t sample) and a very nice shop-in-shop selling local produce and products such as olive oil and the famous Leo Leo gelato.
Next to Diablo Paso, this is my favorite wine tasting and one of the best gastronomic experiences in Paso! This dog-friendly winery in Paso Robles is known not only for its wine (a great selection of whites and reds) but also for its delicious food!
Pet Friendly Paso Robles
Honestly, you should combine wine tasting with lunch there (just thank me later). You’ll sit on a shaded terrace overlooking the stone building and the beautiful vegetable garden, where the chef stores his produce.
The vineyards surrounding the winery are the source of Silhouette de Cour grapes. They also have an in-house gift shop selling local jams, Big Sur salts, and wine accessories including a Pinot Noir scented candle that I almost bought 🙂 I love wine tasting and encounters with this place and I recommend it to all dog parents . . looking for some R&R in Paso.
Two magic words – Pinot Noir and a friendly dog are what drew us to this accidental discovery on our recent trip to the Central Coast. Windward Vineyard specializes in Pinot Noir with 15 acres producing beautiful grapes grown with the cool Pacific Wind blowing in from Templeton Gap. The tasting is $15 with four taps, so don’t miss out if you’re a Pinot lover at this winery which is open seven days a week from 10:30.

This charming restaurant in downtown Paso not only has amazing food that showcases the best of the sea, but it was also voted the best restaurant in town, and it’s easy to see why. The shaded terrace with lots of green plants provides respite from the heat and is perfect for your child to cool off while enjoying a delicious meal. They highly recommend the tacos and gazpacho soup for a light summer afternoon.
Four Wine Country Inns In Paso Robles
This popular coffee shop not only has a selection of caffeinated drinks to start your day, but also a delicious breakfast menu to go with it. Outdoor seating ensures your pup can join in while the interior design is inviting with lots of greenery (read, well-tended plants).
This beautiful cafe is instantly popular for its aesthetic – high wooden ceilings with lots of wood, plants and a small variety of juices, smoothies and breakfasts (avocado toast and matcha pancakes) are also appetizing. They have outdoor seating so come early to prepare your breakfast.
