If you want a quick hike to get your legs up, one of Squamish’s Dykes is your best bet. The levees run along the Stawamus, Mamkam and Squamish rivers, each with beautiful river walks and plenty of wildlife viewing opportunities.
A popular destination for runners and mountain bikers, Ray Peters runs through the woods off the Sea to Sky Highway and is full of trails and paths, but everyone loves a dog. It is also a great location for tree hunting and hiking. You can access the trail through the parking lot below Don Ross School.
At the edge of Howe Sound, the Squamish Estuary offers some of the best and most uninterrupted views of Stawamus Head and is home to hundreds of species of birds and other wildlife. You and your dog can walk the salt flat and spend some time trying to spot the kayaks and marine life. Respect wildlife and keep your dog on a leash.

The path around Loch Brom meanders gently up and down around the loch, you pass rope belts, rock formations, wooden bridges and lots of woodland. There are stair, lower and level road sections. All together it will take about 1-2 hours to complete, enough time to justify a post-hike stop at a local restaurant and maybe a dip for Fido after the hike.
Smoke Bluffs Loop A haven for hikers and rock hounds, there are plenty of K9s hanging around Smoke Bluffs Park. On a clear day a loop around “The Bluffs” is a sight to see as a beautiful loop. Watch the climbers and give your dog the admiration he craves as all the passers-by come to say hello to your four-legged friend.
The Murrin Park Circuit is a 1.8km loop that cuts through the heart of Murrin Lake Provincial Park. This trail is used to access many of the climbing areas in the area and offers stunning views of Howe Sound and a glimpse into the world of climbing.
While dogs are allowed on the Stawamus trails, the climb to the top is not for the faint of heart. There are small stairs and a few sets of chains that your dog needs to be brave. Many rescue dogs are known to provide relief in certain areas, while older dogs often struggle with anxiety. All dogs who reach the top will be rewarded with a case of bottled water and the praise of many who have fought for the top.

Share the Summit Trail A 7.5 km trail that follows a steep path to the sea at the Sky Gondola. You can walk your dog all the way, when you get to the top there is a small pet area where you can let your dog hang out while you enjoy the comforts of the gondola. Dogs are allowed in the yard, but not on bridges or connecting roads. When you’re ready to head back, you and your dog can take the gondola for $15 or continue your walk along the waterfront to the Summit Bridge.
If you’re looking for a steep elevation challenge, the nearly steep trail to High Falls is just what you’re looking for. Located in beautiful Upper Squamish, High Falls is one of the most incredible hikes waiting to be discovered. There are many chains that will help you. However, most dogs manage these things easily and gently encourage their owners to move around a bit. Once at the falls, you can choose to turn back or walk the trail back to your car.
Four Lake Trail One of the most popular four-legged trails in Squamish, the Four Lake Trail is a beautiful experience. Walk around four stunning lakes nestled in a forest of tall trees and dense moss. While dogs are free to explore the trails, Alice Lake Beach is off limits, you should be aware and keep a leash in this area.
Eagle Wind Dog Park Behind Save On Foods, just off Bailey Street, is Squamish’s favorite park – Eagle Wind Dog Park. The park is fully fenced so you can turn the dog loose and let it run.

Sussex has plenty of walking in summer and autumn and skiing in winter. The city is decorated with art, so if you like it, a walk in this area is a must. Falafel Point is a great place to eat (the owners were sweet!) The Bluffs Trail is our favorite hike here. We loved this town and our Airbnb so much that we stayed here another night on our way to Maine!
Home to the highest tide in the world, world-renowned seafood (scallops) and dog-friendly national park make Fundy the perfect destination.
The National Park campsite was bookable, clean and available. The park has many hiking and mountain biking trails to choose from. Matthews Head and Dickson Falls are my favorite trails in the park. Both are dog lovers. There are also many campsites. We stayed at Chignecto Campground.
The neighboring town of Alma and Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park have storms! We walked along the banks of the Alma and were amazed by the fountain. There are good restaurants in town, all of them have dogs in their yards. Hopewell Rocks is worth the price of admission and goes twice. (You agree one day the tide is high and the next it’s low or vice versa.) It’s amazing to see the body!
