One important note about this interchange is that after significant snowfall (no snow plowing in the winter), Highway 20 is closed for the winter until early spring when the snow is finally cleared.

At nearly 700 miles long, this loop can be done in either direction, but clockwise from Seattle is my favorite loop.
I think clockwise is the best direction to drive this way. Because you will be going to the top of Stevens Pass and I think that is the direction with the best view.

Snow covered or not, you’ll be surprised to see Bearing Mountain suddenly appear above the highway.
Start your trip from Seattle by taking I-5 to Everett, then east through Monroe to Stevens Pass.

Upon reaching Highway 207 at the Cole’s Corner gas station, turn north toward Lake Wenatchee and continue along the lake to its northernmost point. There are two options here.
If you have a 4WD vehicle and a map and the road is not closed due to snow or water damage, you can continue on Little Wenatchee River Road to Forest Service Road 6700/Smithbrook Road.
This road eventually rejoins Highway 2 east of Stevens Pass. You can then take Highway 2 east to Tumwater Canyon and Leavenworth.

The Basic Rules
In general, the Olympic Rainforest is not dog-friendly because it is located within a national park. But luckily, the south bank of Quinault Road is in the Colonial Bob Wilderness of the Olympic National Forest, which allows dogs.
This drive is more adventurous because half of the loop is on a dirt road that is not suitable for RVs and trailers.
You can turn around here to complete the 31-mile loop in a counter-clockwise direction, or bypass the turnoff and head north along the coastal Quinult Road.
Either way, you’ll cross the upper Kino River Bridge and take the road less traveled to get there.

One important point I mentioned in that section, but I want to reiterate, is that Interstate 20 in Washington Pass is closed every year after heavy snowfall.
