I regularly use these resources to search for dog-friendly hotels, dog-friendly resorts, and dog-friendly restaurants. And dog friendly trails.
When planning a dog-friendly road trip, the first thing I do is use Google Maps to estimate driving times and find approximate stops.
For example, I only want to drive 8 hours on the first day because it’s 11 hours on the road with delays, I pick our destinations and put them on the map until I find one that is 12 hours long. From Seattle.
I like to choose where and how often I stop, so I include dog-friendly campsites, fun things to visit, and places to visit (like national parks I can enjoy with my dog) in my chosen route I’m looking for.

I can adjust the stops I make along the way based on how long I want to spend at those stops.
If I want to stay in hotels when we travel, there are a few ways to find them.
The PetsWelcome Dog Road Trip Planner is helpful when looking for dog-friendly hotels on the road.
You can enter your starting location, final location and set search criteria for hotels (distance from your route and distance along the route).
Pet Friendly Vacations And Dog Travel Practicalities
If I’m not driving but want to find hotels near our final destination, or if I want to find other options that the PetsWelcome trip planner doesn’t cover, I use the Bring Fido website.
You can find all dog-friendly hotels in a city, as well as estimated prices, descriptions, reviews and general information about the pet policy.
This is the most comprehensive and easy-to-use site I’ve used to find and book dog-friendly hotels.
When looking for places to eat with my dog, I like to look for Pet Friendly Go Guides first.
Best East Coast Beaches For Summer
I like seeing pictures and hearing stories from real people rather than marketing mumbo-jumbo from a website.
Whether or not I’m looking for a destination guide for the city I’m visiting, the next thing I look at is Go Go’s Dog Friendly Travel Search and Bring Fido’s Dog Friendly City Directory .
That might be enough for some, but we want to get out into nature and see some of the best natural scenery the area has to offer.
If I’m looking for dog-friendly trails in Washington state, where I live, I use the Washington Hiking Association’s trail search and filter for dog-friendly (by trail feature and price).

Cooper, but… Cooper doesn’t look like that one piece. Public places annoy him. Every time I took him to a coffee shop for training, he was so disappointed that I wouldn’t order him something as delicious as his omelette tray! This kind of vacation cannot be a fun, enriching, bonding experience. However, he loves sports. He likes to run. He likes to walk. He loves physical challenges and since Violet arrived we haven’t been able to do much with her, so we decided that this year when it’s Coop’s holidays, we’ll take him on more challenging hikes than he’s done in years. .
