Located three miles south of Scarborough, this peaceful, unspoilt beach is a hidden gem, as its wide stretch of sand remains calm all year round. There is something wild about the beach, with its sharp waves perfect for surfers and windsurfers. Backed by towering rock formations that formed around 150 million years ago during the Jurassic period, it’s a great place for fossil hunting.

As much as we love our furry friends, we have to admit; Dogs can be piglets. Some beaches do not allow dogs due to excess litter left on the shore. But don’t let this make you think dog-friendly beaches are dirty. Most dog-friendly beaches, especially those we recommend at Dog Friendly Cottages, make an extra effort to stay clean, making them more hygienic than their dog-free neighbors.
In the UK and Ireland, if a beach is “dog allowed” or “dog friendly”, this usually means that there are no or minimal limits on where dogs are allowed and what time of year they are allowed. Go there. Although we recommend checking before you pack up and leave home, “dog allowed” and “dog friendly” beaches welcome four-legged friends year-round — even in summer. Conversely, the availability of dogs may be limited at beaches listed as “restricted dogs.” This restriction is often a seasonal ban, meaning dogs are not allowed on the beach from May to September.
